Music at Black Ankle Vineyards

ND Club members will meet at the Black Ankle Vineyards on Friday, August 14, from 6:00 until 8:30 pm for Friday Night Music, Wine Tasting, speculation on the upcoming ND football season, and convivial conversation.  Seating is first-come, first-served, and tends to get gobbled up quickly on a beautiful weather day.  You are welcome to bring along camp chairs or picnic blankets for use in areas outside the tasting room.  Finger foods will be available, compliments of the ND Club of Maryland.  Please let Ken Goldman ’76MBA (kenlgoldman@earthlink.net) or Mark Sbarra ’79 (oldrover@comcast.net) know if you can make it so that we can plan the menu.  We'd love to have you!  The venue is located at 14463 Black Ankle Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Sarah's House Summer Picnic

Each year the Notre Dame Club of Maryland is happy to prepare a cook-out picnic for Sarah’s House guests.  This year the cook-out was to have been on June 27.  Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate so the picnic has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 29.  The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, potato and macaroni salad, chips, vegetables, and deserts of various kinds with bottled water and soft drinks.

You can volunteer to help set up, prepare, serve, and clean-up by contacting Ken Goldman ’76MBA at kenlgoldman@earthlink.net.  Volunteering will only require three or four hours of your time.  Eight to ten volunteers are needed, starting at about 11:00 am.  Sarah’s House is located at 2015 20th St., Ft. George G Meade, MD.  Thanks for your help.

Beans and Bread Service

ND alums and friends from the ND Club of Maryland volunteered at Beans and Bread on Saturday, May 30.  Part of the St. Vincent de Paul complex in upper Fells Point in Baltimore, Beans and Bread provides hot lunches to all comers throughout the year.  The Domers included:  Char Soracoe, mother of an ’06 grad; Dick Martiny ’66; Kevin Traynor ’87, and his son Patrick; Mike and Maureen Vernon, parents of John ’14 ’15; and organizer extraordinaire Sue Wood.  The ND volunteers joined with another group and the staff to prepare and serve meals and then clean up.  Lunch was served to 114 people, including 12 women and 6 children.  The Club’s next visits will be August 29, and October 31 (Halloween).  If you want to be involved, please contact Sue Wood at 410-252-2258.  A word of warning: because of its popularity, Sue’s active list is tough to make, but worth the effort.  Beans and Bread needs you!  It exists primarily on donations, monetary and in-kind.  Any foodstuffs, kitchen supplies, equipment, or money are gladly accepted to help people in need.
